Traffic changes IIOctober 25th, 2017
Daily Temporary Work Zone Signage & Traffic Control
Work on Union Street between Pump Station and Intersection of Oak/Union
(TENTATIVE SCHEDULE 10/25 TO 11/6)
While working on Union Street, alternating one-way traffic will be utilized on a daily
basis. Union Street will be closed and detour signs installed at the intersection of
Union/School Street to help alleviate westbound traffic coming from the east. Non-local
westbound traffic will be detoured through School Street, Eastern Avenue, and Ocean
Pointe Road with the appropriate Detour signs and arrows indicating directions.
Eastbound Union Street traffic from Townsend Avenue will still be allowed through
Union Street as a priority to allow flow to continue smoothly on Townsend Avenue. By
limiting westbound traffic on Union it will help prioritize any eastbound traffic and
alleviate congestion on Townsend Avenue in the downtown area.
Flaggers will be positioned at both ends of the work area to manage the alternating oneway
traffic. When working at the intersection of Union/Townsend additional flaggers will
be utilized to help direct traffic on Townsend and Union Street and one lane will be
maintained at all times. At the end of each workday trenches will be backfilled as needed
to allow for normal two-way traffic. Cones will be installed where appropriate to alert
motorists to hazardous near the traveled way.
