The Emergency Management Agency for the Town of Boothbay Harbor was established "to lessen the effects of disaster on the lives and property for the residents of Boothbay Harbor through leadership, coordination and support in the four phases of emergency management: mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery" (Title 37-B MRSA Chapter 13 ss 701)
Boothbay Harbor EMA utilizes assistance from MEMA (Maine Emergency Management Agency) and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) to assist us by coordinating the mitigation (risk reduction) preparedness, response and recovery from emergencies and disasters such as floods, hurricanes, earth quakes or hazardous materials spills.
MEMA / FEMA also provides us with guidance, and assistance to county and local governments, businesses and non-profit organizations in their efforts to provide protection to citizen and property, and increase resiliency in the face of disaster. The agencies use strategies such as planning, training, exercise and public education to carry out its mission.
