 The Planning Department has the following core functions:

  1. Long-range planning: Creating and periodically updating the Town’s Comprehensive Plan as well as various master plans and neighborhood plans, depending on the priorities of the community.

  2. Current planning: Administering the development project review process on behalf of the Town’s volunteer Planning Board.

  3. Ordinance creation and maintenance: Maintenance and creation of land use and related regulations in order to guide desired forms of development.

  4. Policy analysis: Providing decision-makers with quality information and analysis of alternative policy solutions, informed by available data.

  5. Community outreach: Facilitating meaningful community engagement.

  6. Economic development: Protecting the Town’s tax base to support municipal services by attracting investment.

  7. Resource protection: Protecting the natural environment and promoting excellence in the design of the built environment.

  8. Collaboration: Collaborating with community, regional, and State partners.
